Tomato disease - Tomato spotted wilt virusWith this tomato disease you might at least see some symptoms. Trouble is once you see them you still will not be able to save your plant as there is no known cure for this tomato disease. Luckily as it is this tomato disease is spread by Thrips and Aphids and can not spread directly between plants. First the plant will suddenly stop to grow and younger leaves will get a slightly paler shade of green. Later the same leaves and the stalk will get purplish rings and markings and the fruit will be discoloured and grow ugly blotches. Even later than that this tomato disease will do what it does best and just kill your plant. Only thing is to pull it from the ground, plant new tomatoes and spray the whole plantation with insecticide. Hopefully it will be the last you will see of that tomato disease for that season.
Tomato disease - Bacterial wiltThis is probably one of the most serious tomato diseases as it is bacterium striking the plant from below the surface. Found in the soil this tomato disease attacks the roots and will kill your plant without you never discovering it, once you do it is already to late as the plant has fell to the ground to wilt. Also infecting peppers, eggplants and potatoes you will want to check up on these and your surrounding tomato plants so this tomato disease has not spread. If you suspect this tomato disease to be at large, test your tomato plants by peeling off a bit of the stem. If the centre turns brown or appears hollow while leaking liquid it is most probably infected. As no cure is available pull the plant right out of the ground and hope that the tomato disease has not spread.
Tomato disease - Early blightNow when you have read about the two diseases you are probably afraid that this tomato disease is some kind of monster. Do not worry. This tomato disease is rather trivial in comparison and can be cured if noticed in time. As the name hints this tomato disease will only occur early in the plants growing period. A fungus, as this disease is, will get onto the underside of the leaves, either by the leaves touching the ground or soil splash up on the leaves due to rain or watering. There it will grow and take all of its energy from the plant thus slowing its growth rate. Seen as dark areas underneath the leaves try not to upset it to much as spores will detach and end up infecting other plants with this tomato disease. Just cure the tomato disease by removing infected leaves and spray everything with a rich dose of fungicide. Your problems will soon be all taken care of.
